How Time Auction works

1. Earn Karma

Donating and logging past volunteer hours earns you Karma Points, which you can then use to bid on auctions. $1 donated earns 1 Karma Point and 1 hour volunteered earns 10 Karma Points.

2. Bid

Bid your Karma Points to meet inspiring people, such as humanitarians, entrepreneurs, athletes, or artists. Most auctions allow every bidder to win if the goal is reached.

3. Meet

Time Auction is all about priceless experiences and rewards for the priceless philanthropy you do. Depending on the auction, meetings are done virtually or in person... or both!

Spend an hour chatting or coding with Lew

Lew loves entrepreneurship and software development. Feel free to spend your hour asking him for advice about your startup or break out your laptop and see what the "Coding CEO" is made of!

Lew Cirne, "The Coding CEO", is a pioneer in the development of application performance management, in which he holds 19 patents

Lew discovered the joy of building software in 1982 when he received his first computer as a Christmas gift from his parents. Three decades later, Lew has been recognized as the creator of the multi-billion dollar Application Performance Management (APM) market, and the founder of two companies that have realized an aggregate enterprise value of over $1 billion.

A developer at heart, Lew still devotes time each week to building software alongside the world class engineers at New Relic. He's also a guest lecturer at Harvard and Stanford, and is the subject of a Harvard Business School case study, used each year to teach students the principles of successful entrepreneurship. Lew has an AB in Computer Science from Dartmouth College and serves on the boards of New Relic and the Thrive Foundation for Youth.

Lew was raised in Port Hope, Ontario. His parents, Geoff and Jean Cirne, were immigrants to Canada from Manchester, England. Lew attended Trinity College School and in 1993 received an A.B. from Dartmouth College with a major in Computer Science.

Lew held senior technical positions at Apple and Hummingbird Communications. In 1998, Lew founded Wily Technology. He was responsible for developing Wily Technology's vision of enterprise class application performance management and is credited with bringing it to the Java platform. Lew was one of the chief technologists and driving force in enterprise application performance and availability. He served as Wily Technology's President and Chief Executive Officer until October 2001. After eight years of growth, Wily was acquired by CA for $375 million in March 2006. Cirne holds patents in the area of software related to application performance management.

In 2008, Lew began focusing on the software as a service model while an entrepreneur in residence for Benchmark Capital and founded New Relic. New Relic is a SaaS provider of Web application performance management. New Relic's technology monitors Web and mobile applications in real-time that run in cloud, on-premise, or hybrid environments.

"New Relic" is an anagram of Lew Cirne's name.
