How Time Auction works

1. Earn Karma

Donating and logging past volunteer hours earns you Karma Points, which you can then use to bid on auctions. $1 donated earns 1 Karma Point and 1 hour volunteered earns 10 Karma Points.

2. Bid

Bid your Karma Points to meet inspiring people, such as humanitarians, entrepreneurs, athletes, or artists. Most auctions allow every bidder to win if the goal is reached.

3. Meet

Time Auction is all about priceless experiences and rewards for the priceless philanthropy you do. Depending on the auction, meetings are done virtually or in person... or both!

Eat lunch with Ian

Chat with Ian over lunch about anything from his past work in private equity to his current work on Deloitte's corporate finance team. Get to know what he does in the finance world on a day-to-day basis. Or why he loves Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. You will be having lunch with Ian and up to two other bidders.

Have a career mentoring session with Ian

Always wanted to go into finance but lamented that you weren't in Toronto or New York City? Ask Ian how he got into it and was able to stay in beautiful Vancouver. Feel free to use this 1-hour session to do a mock interview, look over your resume, or just chat about Ian's volunteer work or favourite outdoor location in BC.

Ian is a corporate finance professional specializing in M&A, succession planning & divestiture transactions - who also loves to give back!

Born and raised in Quesnel, BC, Ian has been pleased to call Vancouver home for the past 9 years. Since graduating from the Sauder School of Business in 2009, Ian has been working busily in the mergers and acquisition space in Vancouver. Ian is currently working in the Corporate Finance team at Deloitte.

As part of Deloitte's Corporate Finance team, Ian provides business owners and corporate directors with M&A advisory services. Focusing on business divestitures, Ian assists in the negotiation of transaction price and terms, provides vendor due diligence, and markets businesses to qualified private equity and strategic buyers.

He has lots of experiences and stories to share and is someone you definitely want to meet if you're in, or considering a career in, corporate finance. He'd love to meet you too!

Ian previously worked in Deloitte's Valuation Services team, as well as, Deloitte's M&A Transaction Services team, where he helped provide companies with formal value estimates and provided financial due diligence services to acquisitive companies. Prior to this, Ian worked for a boutique private equity company where he conducted financial analysis and assisted with the acquisition of portfolio companies.

To supplement his CA designation, Ian is also a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV). Further, he is schedule to write the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level III exam in 2014.

Ian struggles to sit still and is always looking for something new to keep him busy. When he’s away from the office he and his wife like to camp, fish, hike, and ski. Also, he keeps his calendar full with volunteering activities and he loves networking and meeting new people.

Ian is no stranger to the volunteering world either. For example, he's passionate about donating blood. He says that blood donors have saved his mother’s life 13 times in one year, so he tries to give back whenever he can. He is currently the treasurer and board member of the Dixon Transition Society. Dixon Transition Society helps to reduce the impact of domestic violence by providing a safe haven for women and children. In recent months he has also spent time on a weekly basis in Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports (VASS) program at Grouse Mountain. VASS is a program that is always in need of new volunteers to help teach people with disabilities how to ski.

"I’m very grateful to have become involved with Time Auction and their amazing team. I’ve met some very inspiring leaders in our community. Thank you Time Auction!"

"Meeting Robin was one of the best decisions of my life. She inspired us with her story of starting Pencils for Kids, and on making a difference in one of the poorest economies in the world: Niger. Robin kindly offered to help the NGO that I support, and within months, we were collaborating with each other to successfully launch a new social program in Niger! I've learned insights from Robin on international development that I could not have gained from any textbooks. Thank you Robin, and thank you Time Auction!"
