Lisa Fender is the lead producer of CBC's Live Right Now - a health initiative to inspire Canadians to make small, manageable life changes.
LiveRightNow.ca is an interactive website featuring easy-to-do challenges, tips, and tools to make fitting healthy activities into our hectic lifestyle just a little easier. Live Right Now is about small, manageable changes that collectively will help change the health of our country!
Over the last year Live Right Now issued a series of challenges. We encouraged Canadians to share more than 100,000 meals together and fed 100,000 Canadian families in need. We spent more than 400,000 minutes in nature during our "30x30" challenge, helped bring thousands of Canadians together to celebrate the "Longest Day of Play," joined other media outlets for "Healthy Me Week", helped all of us get "Back to Routine" this fall with weekly tasks and inspired each other with photographs and stories that illustrate how we explore our great country!
Lisa would love to meet you and chat about her career in television, her love of Canada, or her favourite moment working for the CBC.
Videos
The first video is an intro to Live Right Now. The second is a segment on CBC Newsworld, where Adam Bienenstock was interviewed about Natural Playgrounds and the Live Right Now Healthy City Challenge. The last video is a flashmob!
In 2010 Lisa was asked to develop what is now known as Live Right Now. Through the initiative, Canadians pledged 1.6 million pounds of weight loss and fed 100,000 families in need. Edmundston, N.B. was crowned the Live Right Now Capital of Canada – winning a $100,000 playground. As the lead producer on the project, Lisa has overseen the development of the website and interactive tools, internal and external partnerships, managed the social media and content strategies and planned targeted outreach to Canadians.
Previously, Lisa worked with The Hour/George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight. She joined The Hour as one of its founding members. Over her five seasons on the show she produced interviews with people like June Callwood, Jean Chretien, Grayden Carter, Stephen King and Malcolm Gladwell. She produced signature segments like Mile-A-Minute, The List, Best Story Ever and The Newsstand. She also created new segments like How to Save the World and Still Look Good, and The Electometer. She was responsible for the weekly Friday show and the 2008 New Years Special starring Sarah Palin.
