Toni De Mello is a development and human rights worker who has worked to improve war-torn countries and our very own communities
Always one to take action, Toni is more than happy to share her experiences and knowledge with the bidders on this auction. She wants to engage and mobilize citizens so that they have a sense of connection to their communities and make a contribution to the places in which they live.
Toni believes that we don't have to give up our lives and work tirelessly in a war for others in a far away land - we can do something small every day in our own neighbourhood. And we can do something incredible if we work with others to achieve our visions.
Toni talks at TEDxUW:
Toni was actively involved in student life while at the University of Waterloo and has since received numerous awards for her academic and leadership excellence, including the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship at Princeton, the Princeton University International Service Award, the David Litner, Q.C. Scholarship for significant contribution to the law faculty at McGill, and the McGill Scarlet Key Award for outstanding leadership.
A lawyer by profession, but a humanitarian at heart, Toni travelled to Geneva, Switzerland in 2006 as an analyst for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to assist in developing the Lebanon Crisis Return Plan for 600,000 displaced people. Toni continues to contribute to the University of Waterloo by being a guest speaker at various events.

Maybe it's an idea you've been brewing in your head or maybe you see something that you've been wanting to fix in your community. Brainstorm and create a plan for how to tackle this issue and what the next steps are to ensure the project is a success.
